CGATee-Six (The Night Driver)

Cindi Gardner driving the Nineteen86. Yeah, that's it. Both of the character & the car were from my Limited Color Pixel Art series where I made some artworks with colors based on old computers & hardware (and in one case: Emulate a ZX Spectrum styled artwork). So this here I attempted to stylize with a retro anime aesthetic into it.

So I finished this piece at the end of the year. This one looks aesthetically presentable than I thought, imo.

The Finalized pic. To make the pic feel as aesthetic as possible, you gotta post-process this bitch. So I had two versions of the pic merged together: one that's small & the other higher. Add blur & CRT filtering, and BAM! Done.

To start with the basics, I begun a simple separate pose for the girl with the use of DesignDoll. Nothing special here.

I drew her with Staedtler pens and this was an attempt to make it in some sort of EGA styled palette. I was thinking too much. BTW, I updated her design from her previous version, while giving her a name.

Vivi's here as a placeholder. In the original Nineteen86, the "windows" are fully solid, plus the main model is poorly modeled. So I fixed it, add interior stuff, and contemporary lights.

This is an outlined version. Adding the lights will mess it up, surely. Now this angle isn't the greatest, so I decided to scrap this angle.

That's more like it. This is where I start drawing the picture. I added some vertex elements to get the outline idea. I also throw in a steering wheel, to get the idea where her hand should be.

The outlined version, just to help me get into grips.

The same render, but make the steering wheel stand out. Yes, I shamelessly traced the thing (mostly).

Added some decor to make it less boring-looking.

Added background objects, updated lighting, and slightly updated car (the front headlights & have vertex paint).

Finished sketch. I've given this extra details that I haven't implemented on the model like windshield wipers, additional decals, scuff marks, and even the backseat.

Continuing from previous: I flipped the pose to make it feel a bit Japanese. Now pic here is just the basic outline for the car, itself. No interior details or decals yet, and the color isn't final.

It's tough to find the correct car color that fits into the night scene. So here's a screenshot of the car. I just started working on the interiors, and yes it's quite messy.

Here's Cindi. Although she looks like cotton candy & bubblegum pudding with those colors. The colors may change in the final to fit in the night theme.

First look at the full image. This doesn't look like some anime in the 80s-early 2000s, but the main struggle here is the use of colors.

BONUS: Before the decor, I did this weird shot. Yes, that's the original license plate, and yes the car looks like ass.

Some logos from the sketch. I changed the OM badge with Xeno, since one of my other cars was the Xeno Nineteen95 (in itself was based off the Nineteen86). Also the logo above is Hi-Way, a Midway parody.

Updated the car with decals, changed the window tints, and a better background. Japanese sticker loosely translates to "Heart, Mind, Soul."

AS SINCE this is updated at Christmas Eve, I decided to shitpost this.

To get the aesthetic style down, you need a lotta reference materials. Ones I used are good examples to get the colors down, alongside the outline sizes (barely) & redid that Japanese decal.

Originally, the car was going to be a golden yellow, until I realize the blue-pink-yellow color scheme is the Pansexual Pride colors, and Cindi is nowhere near pansexual in my taste. And thus, the car is blue.

The finished work... well, for the clean version. This doesn't look like an 80s-90s anime aesthetic, and you're right. So I did some touchups and even added a city in the background.

So I had to retrace the outlines & the entire background. Although there might be some kinks here & there, but one thing I finally add was the scuff marks. I wanted those marks.
