So I was thinking about redesigning Sakura from Cardcaptors for a while. The end result is sub-par for me.
...One of these days, I'll revisit drawing her in a much better style.
The finalized piece with halftone shading. I got the shading idea from Geo EXE (Great artist, though). I also made her name looking like it's a metal band for no reason.
To begin this escapade, I start with a rejected pose. I usually use DesignDoll for making poses. There's an earlier one, but it's worse.
A simple pose, but this'll do for me.
Now I make a sketch. Yes, I know the way she hold the card is unrealistic, but I was thinking about making a different pose besides giving the finger.
Sakura's iconic sealing wand. This is just a basic naked model, but vertex-painted. Done in Blender in about a couple hours.
Smile. This is an early version of her eyes, which were pill-shaped.
Body roughly done, but where's her head? Also updated her face.
Now this is the part where I redo the pose. My target for Sakura: Make her CUTE. My result: Anything BUT. Another update for her eyes, though.
Ditched the old design for a better one, complete with Captain Morgan pose. This time, less pink with additional colours.
Flat colours and made a face. I used Blender as a reference, for plastering her face and that helped.
More of a facelift. The new one had some Shantae vibes, which isn't a bad thing, in my opinion. Now all I need to do is consider redrawing the entire character, matching her face.
Some emotions, complete with blink.
I simply redesign the iconic Clow cards for a slightly simple look. If I used the recent clear cards, I'll just make it a blank square for a laugh.
Coloured in with more of a reddish fashion. Updated the Staff & her design for a bit realistic.
